OK so you’ve invested in a professional organizer or you’ve taken the time to organize your home yourself.
WOO HOO CONGRATULATIONS!
No seriously, this is a celebratory moment because home organization lives on our to-do list rent free for months honey.
Okay I’ll be honest, YEARS!
But what do we do now?
How do you keep yourself from repeating the cycle of living in cluttered chaos?
How do you maintain your new system when life is “lifing” and you just don’t have time right now?
What steps can you take to get a good return on your investment?
1. Choose Your Home Reset Day(s)
This is going to help you maintain what you have started, especially during those weeks where you don’t have the energy to put things back everyday.
Never go more than 7 days without a reset. You’ll feel overwhelmed letting it overlap like that.
2. Implement The “Focused Fifteen”
You may not have time to do a full reset but can I tell you a secret? You don’t need a lot of time to maintain organization. Setting a 15 minute timer on a consistent basis will keep your home in order just fine.
Hear me clearly!
I’m not saying complete everything in 15 minutes. Just do what you can in 15 minutes If you’re done when the 15 minutes is up, great! If not, start another 15 minute timer the same day or do it the next day and repeat. 15 minutes of focus is okay and maybe 5 minutes of focus on other days.
The goal is progression not perfection.
3. Specify Your To-Do List
Maintaining an organized home can be overwhelming but when you break your big goal into specific tasks, you’ll see it’s a lot easier. So instead of “ clean the kitchen” .Make it “load the dishwasher and wipe off the countertops for 15 minutes”. It’s easier to see the end when it’s written this way and you have a better way of retracing your steps and getting back on task if you’re distracted.
Change Your Habits
You’ve invested your finances and your time into getting your home organized. So get a good return on that investment by utilizing these tips to maintain the systems and structure put in place. Remember, give yourself some grace on this new journey.
An organized home is beautiful but at the core, we’re talking habit change.
This process of habit change isn’t sexy at first but its worth it. So give yourself grace on this new journey and never stop trying.
You got this!
